The Girl Child Project’s Reading Journey
October 11, 2020 - March 8, 2021Free
The #GirlChildLongWalk reading journey is a reflection-focused engagement that invites participants to explore the ancient yet very contemporary gender-based legacy of oppression that still impacts girls and women today.
It begins on October 11, 2020, the International Day of the Girl Child, and ends on March 8, 2021, International Women’s Day. Over the course of the journey, participants will come to understand the historical roots of patriarchy, become acquainted with real-life faith-inspired change agents who challenge gender norms around the world, and learn about the deeper, emancipatory current of faith that lies at the heart of our faith traditions.
The journey is based on an e-book created by Emily Nielsen Jones, Co-Founder of Boston’s Imago Dei Fund and by Rev. Domnic Misolo, Founder of Kenya’s Institute for Faith and Gender Empowerment. Participants from Boston, other U.S. cities and all over the world come together in small facilitated groups every month to discuss readings that are anchored in the Bible and other texts, and embrace the human experience of people of all faiths.
